Founded in 2012, Doherty Woodshavings LTD supplies high-quality animal bedding and biomass wood pellets to the NI and ROI markets. Despite our recent founding, Doherty’s history extends much further than our registered company roots. Starting as a small, local business catering to the needs of the agricultural community, Doherty’s began over 30 years ago in a yard situated between Cullybackey and Portglenone, in the heart of the Antrim countryside. Originally called F&M Doherty, the business is still owned and run by the Doherty family; using these years of expertise to continue to develop and grow.
At Doherty Wood shavings, we take sustainability seriously. We’re a small, family-run business from the heart of County Antrim and anyone fortunate enough to know this part of the world, knows just how lucky we are to live and work here. As a company that manufactures from timber, we know we have a part to play in keeping our local environment as beautiful as possible. But we also know it goes much farther than that. The impact of what we do here can be felt much further than County Antrim, and the island of Ireland.
All of the products we manufacture are produced using sustainably sourced wood and we bring in materials from businesses with recognised certification. This means all of our timber-based products are sourced from sustainable forestry that doesn’t contribute to deforestation in the UK, Ireland or elsewhere.
At every stage of the our product’s lifecycles, we try our best to maximise sustainability. From using by-products that would otherwise be considered waste to encouraging the use of shavings in anaerobic digestion, we want to do our bit to promote a brighter future and cleaner countryside. We still have plenty we’d like to achieve, but by taking small steps we hope to constantly improve our sustainability and strive to meet our targets a little more every day.
